DPNet Nepal Marks 30th Anniversary with Food Assistance to the Raute Community
9th June 2026: Surkhet, Karnali Province: Disaster Preparedness Network Nepal (DPNet Nepal), Karnali Province, provided food and essential supplies to the endangered Raute community as part of activities commemorating DPNet Nepal’s 30th anniversary.
The assistance was distributed on Tuesday to Raute families currently residing at Cholpa Khanikhola in Ward No. 9 of Simta Rural Municipality, Surkhet. The community had relocated to the area a few days before the distribution programme.
DPNet Nepal and SOSEC Nepal jointly coordinated the initiative. A total of 40 Raute households received flour, vegetables, soap and other essential supplies worth approximately NPR 100,000.
Speaking during the programme, DPNet Nepal’s Acting General Secretary, Harshaman Maharjan, said that various activities were being organized across all seven provinces to commemorate the network’s 30th anniversary. He noted that the food assistance programme was organized by DPNet Nepal’s Karnali Province Committee as part of the nationwide celebration.
Maharjan also observed that the Raute community has undergone several positive changes over time while continuing to preserve its distinct cultural identity and traditional way of life.
Hira Singh Thapa, Chairperson of DPNet Nepal’s Karnali Province Committee and Executive Director of SOSEC Nepal, expressed satisfaction that the anniversary could be celebrated through meaningful support to the endangered Indigenous community.
“We are pleased to commemorate DPNet Nepal’s 30th anniversary by providing food assistance to the Raute community,” Thapa said. He also expressed a commitment to continue similar humanitarian assistance and relief initiatives in the future.
The distribution programme was attended by Mahesh Bhattarai, Secretary of DPNet Nepal’s Karnali Province Committee, representatives and staff of SOSEC Nepal, journalists and other stakeholders.
The Raute community currently has a population of 133. Gurans Rural Municipality of Dailekh has been providing various services and support to the community over the years.
The initiative reflected DPNet Nepal’s commitment to ensuring that endangered, Indigenous and nomadic communities are included in humanitarian assistance, disaster preparedness and resilience-building efforts. It also connected the organization’s anniversary celebration with practical action in support of communities facing social, economic and disaster-related vulnerabilities.
