Disaster Risk Reduction Including Climate Change Adaptation Over South Asia: Challenges and Ways Forward

Summary

The article covers the DRR along with climate change adaptation in South Asia. South Asia faces cross-boundary hydro-meteorological hazards, exacerbated by climate change, emphasizing the importance of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) as policy priorities. While there is a global recognition of integrating DRR and CCA into development planning, South Asia is in the early stages of such integration. A review of 371 projects related to CCA and DRR highlights diversity in location, scale, and sectoral focus. Bangladesh, India, and Bhutan show proactive efforts, but meta-analysis indicates an urgent need for individual and collaborative convergence in plans, strategies, and programs for effective regional policymaking.
