NSET Experience on Seismic Retrofitting of Masonry and RC Frame Buildings in Nepal

Summary

This document is a draft report of the experience of NSET on Seismic Masonry and RC Frame Buildings in Nepal. The National Society for Earthquake Technology Nepal (NSET) was established in June 1993 and initiated its first school retrofitting project in 1999, focusing on a rural area in the Kathmandu Valley. NSET has since been involved in retrofitting approximately 300 school buildings across Nepal, primarily masonry structures. The organization also conducted seismic vulnerability assessments and retrofit designs for residential buildings, including both masonry and reinforced concrete frame structures. However, most retrofitting activities are concentrated in urban or nearby areas with ready access to materials like cement and steel/galvanized iron mesh.
