The journal delves into the hazard analysis of landslides. In July 2002, tropical storm Chata’an caused over 250 landslides in the eastern volcanic islands of Chuuk State, Federated States of Micronesia. With nearly 20 inches of rainfall in less than 24 hours, these landslides resulted in 43 fatalities, damaged 231 structures, and buried roads, crops, and water supplies. The landslide volumes varied from a few cubic meters to over 1 million cubic meters.
