Advanced Geographic Information System

Summary

Several points must be made before discussing GIS modeling. First, GIS models can be vector-based or raster-based. The choice between these two types of models is determined by the nature of the model, data sources, and the computing algorithm. Generally speaking, a raster-based model is preferred if the modeling involves intense and complex computation; for this reason, process models and, to a lesser degree, regression models are usually raster-based.
