Rich water, Poor People: Potential for Transboundary Flood Management between Nepal and India

Summary

This is a research paper on transboundary flood management between Nepal and India that illustrates the findings as; the frequency and severity of floods in the Nepal-Bihar region have risen. Despite abundant water resources, poverty persists, and shared vulnerabilities across borders pose a serious concern. These floods adversely affect millions, particularly the impoverished relying on the local environment. Transboundary efforts could yield positive outcomes for the well-being of dependent communities. This study focuses on flood challenges in the Koshi and Gandak river basins, emphasizing the need for joint action due to strong upstream connections. Cooperation between Nepal and India is crucial for downstream flood management, fostering trust and shared understanding. The paper recommends transboundary flood management actions to enhance community and river basin resilience.
