Remotely Designed Appropriate Technology for Emergency Disaster Response in Nepal

Summary

This paper discusses using remotely designed appropriate technology (AT) for disaster response, comparing it to traditional sustainable community development (SCD). After a Nepal earthquake, MSU Denver engineering students devised a low-cost bio-sand filter for emergency relief. Manuals were distributed through local NGOs. The study also examines repurposing an AT assessment tool for monitoring AT effectiveness during emergencies.
