Bamboo and Bio-engineering Interventions for Mitigation of River Bank Erosion: A Case Study

Summary

This paper is a case study of Bamboo and Bio-engineering Interventions for the Mitigation of River Bank Erosion. The European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (DG ECHO) supported two projects, Kailali Disaster Risk Reduction Initiatives I (KDRRI I) and Kailali Disaster Risk Reduction Initiatives II (KDRRI II), under the DIPECHO Fourth and Fifth Action Plans for South Asia. These projects aimed to create safer communities through disaster risk reduction initiatives by collaborating with local communities, governments, and stakeholders, providing capacity building, early warning systems, mitigation measures, education, and coordination support. KDRRI II expanded on the successes of KDRRI I, with a focus on contributing to Nepal's overall disaster risk reduction strategy by assisting local communities and institutions.
