This sitrep prepared by Emergency and Humanitarian Action (EHA) Unit is about the situation of Nepal after the Avalanche and floods in Seti River, in the Kaski district of Nepal.
On May 5, 2012, around 0930 hrs, an avalanche in the Annapurna Mountains triggered floods in the Seti river, Kaski district, Western Development Region, Nepal. By May 9, 2012, 26 people were reported killed, 44 persons were missing, and 14 families were displaced, including three Ukrainian tourists. The flood swept away 20 houses, two temples, one community building, half a kilometer of road section, two suspension bridges, the water supply system to Pokhara valley (supplying around 60% of water), and electric poles. Immediate cash and Non-Food Items support were provided by the DDRC and NRCS to the affected families and the families of the deceased.
The government dispatched emergency rescue, relief, and response teams, established a command post, and supplied emergency resources to the affected communities. The WHO collaborated with the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division of the Department of Health Services at the central level, supporting the District Public Health Office's ongoing efforts. WHO's Environmental Health and Assessment staff participated in the government-led information verification and assessment team in the affected areas.
