Review of landslide inventories for Nepal between 2010 and 2021 reveals data gaps in global landslide hotspot

Summary

This study compiles 117 inventories (2010–2021) and shows large national coverage gaps, 40% of Nepal was only mapped once, often not in low-susceptibility areas, with focus skewed to the 2015 Gorkha region and major highways. Estimates a baseline areal density of ~0.05 landslides/km² (~6,000 landslides nationally) and calls for broader, open, standardized inventories.
