Summary

This report builds on the first Status Report on Target E Implementation issued before the 2020 Target E deadline. This new edition benefits from more up-to-date and better-quality data extracted from government self-assessments in the Sendai Framework Monitor (SFM), and from the initial inputs to government consultations for the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework (MTR SF). The report highlights the continued efforts made by governments in developing national and local disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies, aligning them to the Sendai Framework, and fostering integration between DRR, climate change, and sustainable development. It also highlights the shift in governments' focus from developing towards implementing their DRR strategies and confirms the Sendai Framework's principle that Target E is the foundation for achieving other targets and has triggered concrete DRR implementation.
