The “Procedures for the Relocation and Rehabilitation of Hazard-Prone Settlements (2017)”, published by the Government of Nepal and supported by HRRP Nepal, provides a structured approach for identifying, relocating, and supporting families living in disaster-prone areas. Based on geological assessments, settlements are classified by risk level, and data is collected to determine relocation preferences. Families opting to relocate receive land purchase grants and housing assistance, with restrictions on land ownership transfer. The procedure promotes community participation through user committees for selecting safe locations, developing integrated settlements, and overseeing infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and health services. It also includes livelihood support programs implemented by government or I/NGOs, with special priority given to vulnerable groups.
