13 families displaced in Ilam 27 Aug. 2008

Thirteen families in Ilam have been displaced due to landslides. District administration said five families in Hamang VDC, three in Pyang, two in Mabu and one each in Sobada Mangalbare and Ilam municipality were displaced due to landslides triggered by 15 days of continuous rainfall. The displaced have been sheltering in relatives houses. The administration said landslides this rainy season has damaged property worth Rs 5 million in Ilam so far.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture Development Bank Limited, Sunsari, provided Rs 1,111,111 to PM’s Relief Fund for relief of flood victims in Sunsari. Bank’s GM Yogeshwor pant handed over the cheque to acting PM Dr Baburam Bhattarai yesterday. Likewise, the bank’s staffers have provided one day’s salary to the fund.

Meanwhile, Prabha Foundation provided Rs 10,000 relief for the flood victims. Also yesterday, staffers of the department of forest at Babarmahal provided Rs 75,718 from their two days’ salary for the flood victims.

In Dhading, electricity supply to three VDCs in Dhading’s Salyantar VDC and Gorkha’s Arubang and Aruchanaute VDCs has been disrupted after landslide swept away the canal of Arughat Micro Hydropower Project in Dhading. The damage in the canal has also affected irrigation services in the area. The reconstruction is estimated to cost Rs 400,000. The project was in operation since 19 years ago.
